A Family Collaboration
As you might have noticed, all of our instructors have the last name “Tolentino!” That’s because we’re a family of Chess players who’ve always dreamed of starting up our own Chess school. Our Dad and us 3 brothers have represented team Alberta in many national events, had our fair-share of tournament play, and created many great memories from our Chess journey. Although our Mom plays only a little bit of Chess, we have an up and coming little sister who is in the intermediate level and is on her way up! As a family, with well over a decade of experience, we all shared our inputs into creating a Chess school that has both a great curriculum and enjoyable teaching methods that our younger selves would have appreciated if we were enrolled in a Chess school. We placed Chess strategies, principles, and fundamentals which we discussed and believed to be the most important for the starting, developing, and experienced Chess players. We want to share our knowledge with you while giving it our best to make it a fun and enjoyable experience!
Mission
To provide a well-structured and high quality chess curriculum to the youth while making their learning experience a fun and enjoyable one!
Vision
To be able to make Chess as a course option within the school curriculum.
Why Chess Minds Calgary?
Our Chess school is in-person and we practice a learner-centered approach when we teach. One of our top priorities is making sure that the students are engaged and having fun while they learn and get better at chess. Having in-person Chess classes holds many additional learning benefits compared to having them online. Students will be able to physically hold the chess pieces as they train, socialize with other students, and feel a stronger belonging within the Chess class, all of which promotes their interest in the game even further and enhances their learning experience. We aim to set the standard for all Chess schools to be fun, engaging, memorable, and educational.
